Purpose:

If a second or additional battery is to be installed in a vehicle, the installation of an isolating relay is highly recommended. The purpose of installing this relay is to disconnect the two batteries when the engine is off. The second battery is only switched on when the ignition is switched on. In this way, the batteries cannot discharge one another if they are not used for a long time. When the engine is running, both batteries are then charged via the alternator.
